Completely new the the sponge world, but very familiar with the use of activated charcoal. Activated charcoal when taken orally can save your life in the situation that you swallow something poisonous by absorbing it. Even if it is just bad quality food, and you stomach hurts...  give it a few minutes  and you will be feeling great.  People are now using activated charcoal to whiten their teeth, and even in facial masks to absorb impurities in the skin.  I can see how this would have  similar style of use.  It comes hard and becomes soft when it is moist. You use it as you would any other facial sponge to clean your face.  so far so good.
