NOVICA in association with National Geographic, works with artisans around the globe. This piece is made by Salvador Momox, and comes from my mothers’ home country of Mexico.

The pitcher is made by actually blowing into the glass when it is melted. It takes shape with metal tools, air that someone is blowing using their mouth, twisting and turning, and rolling into pieces of glass. This truly is a work of art! How do I know the process? I watch a lot of Discovery Channel, and National Geographic. Now actually holding one of these hand-made blown glass pitchers in my hands, I have even more respect for the people and artist’s that practice this trade.

The Pitcher is Huge! The colors are Clear, White, Yellow, Brown, Specks of black/Blue, and I even saw a speck of green. The clear handle is not straight like mass produced pitchers, it is attached with a delicate curve, yet it is thick and feels sturdy. The outer layer has an even more 3D effect of texture, as swirls of curved glass come out ,giving it a uniqueness that I have not seen anywhere else. I think it looks like sugar caramel swirls, which is probably where it gets its name “Caramel Fantasy I.” If I could only describe this pitcher in two words it would be- Beautiful! Elegant!

About our Artist: I'm Salvador Momox, from the state of Coahuila, and moved to Jalisco to study engineering with a specialization in quality. After some time I visited Salvador Murillo's glass workshop and I was immediately taken by the shapes and colors of what I saw there. I left with a desire to learn more. I returned with an offer to form a partnership and we started with a shop, selling the work of a man who had a glass workshop. We weren't crafting anything yet. After a while our friend, the owner of the glass workshop, passed away and the workshop had to close down. Since our venture was growing we thought we could keep the workshop going and in February 2013 we took the plunge - with our savings and some loans - and became blown glass producers. We encountered several challenges at first, due to the high costs. We both have had to make personal sacrifices, but we have taken on the challenge of balancing our work and the development of our venture with our dedication to our respective families. It has been gratifying for us knowing we didn't give up, we continue to forge ahead, and that our customers are visibly pleased with our work. I'm in charge of the blown glass process and logistics as well as accounting and dealing with suppliers as well as customers. Murillo is in charge of the workshop, retail sales, and the forged iron lamps we also specialize in. He is quite knowledgeable about these lamps, because that's what his parents used to do. However this is an art you're constantly learning...

“Tree of Life”

"I made this sculpture as a tribute to life," confides John Barrow. "The different colors represent the joy of life, of feeling, and of having hope for the future. Its optimism is contagious."

I saw this wooden sculpture properly named “Tree of Life”, and I knew that I had to own it. The colors, design, organic shape and the story behind it called to me. I have wanted to travel to Peru for a while now, but unfortunately life took its turns in different directions. Now I have this beautiful sculpture that allows me to escape and draw inspiration just by looking at it.  

The sculpture named “Tree of Life” measures 8" H x 6.5" W x 2", and is made of Ishpingo, cedar, and mahogany wood which is stained with natural dyes. It is made up of several pieces of wood that fit together like a puzzle. One solid piece would probably look nice, but this technique of mixing different wood, colors shape, geometry, give it a uniqueness that I have never seen before.  Colors: Red, Brown, Blue, Green, Pink, Purple, Orange, Yellow

Since the sculptures are hand made, there will be some small subtleties that may differ. For the most part the overall shape will be the same, as will the colors; but some of the pieces may be a little rounder, while others may be a little pointier, some shades alittle darker, and others lighter. These slight difference add to the uniqueness of the piece. I feel as the piece was made specifically for me.

The small Boyon  led lamp is small, portable, and give a really nice amount of light!  A Matte finish with a rubberized outer stem makes it soft to the touch. Operating the light is simple since there is only one button to press.  1 push is on, long hold dims it, another long hold brightens, one short push will then shut it off. You can position it 360 degrees with ease. The small base allows it to fit anywhere.  It has about a 3 hour battery life when it is fully charged, and a 3-5 year lifespan.

The only one thing I would change is the charging port. I would rather see a microUSB connection. Mind you it is powered via USB, but he connecting port is different, if it was a microUSB then you could plug into the magnitude of surplus cords that most of us own.

This is now my brightest desk lamp that I own! I own 7 different lamps. 

The Lighting Zzar has 44 Ultra-bright Dimmable LED Bulbs rated at 300 Lumens , that are controlled via a touch sensor on the base of the device.

 
The light has the ability to fold into itself for easy transport, and then unfold into a desk lamp. You have 2 lanyard notches at each end that you can use to tie some thin rope to and use as an overhead light while camping.

It comes with a 2Watt solar panel that connects via a super long microusb cable and can fully charge the lamp in about 15 hours of direct sunlight. The solar panel also had the ability to give my Samsung Galaxy S2 when connected directly into it (idk how safe that would be- so you should connect directly to the lamp, and then use the lamp to connect to your device).

The lamp also serves as a 4000mah power bank- can fully charge my device 2x's and it comes with different power tips for multiple devices.

The lamp should be able to get about 5 hours of light in the brightest mode- 13 hours on the lowest mode

The actual stand that it flips back and forth on is a Sturdy Aluminum.

Bohemian-style is in for home décor!

I am a 27 years old college graduate. Looking for home décor, it is quickly made clear how most colors and designs are targeted at the masses.   This bohemian-style place-mat brings a touch of unique artistic inspiration into your home environment, which is not only visually appealing, but is a great functional conversation starter.

These are sold as singles, but I believe there are 4 different owl designs that complete the set. You could of course get 4 of the same design, but it is interesting to have the possibility to mix and match 4 different owls.  Size 18W x 14Tall

The design is by an up and coming artist UK (Ashley Percival), but the place-mats themselves are made in the USA. I really like the idea of supporting US small businesses.

The material is 100% cotton twill with a dual sided construction. The top layer is soft and is home to the artists’ design. The bottom layer is white and much thicker- kind of tote like, or canvas like. They are sewn together around the edges and the entire place- mat feels durable, flexible, soft yet heavy duty at the same time. I do believe that it is treated for spill and stain protection.

Colors: Blue, Teal, Green, Orange, Grey, white, peach, black, maroon, brown---there may be different shades of similar colors through-out the design

If you are into Owls, or you are looking for a gift for someone that is into to Owls / Bohemian-style art / Home decor, then I would highly recommend this place-mat.

The Earth Pak Dry Bag is both functional, and stylish!

Firstly, the dry bag is super easy to use- it’s a matter of putting your stuff in, follow the picture on the top which says to roll it  3-4 times, click the clip in place, and attach the easy adjustable strap to the 2 D rings, and you are ready to go.  I recommend leaving the air inside of it because not only will it allow it to float if it falls in water, but the pressure on the air creates help keep the seal on the top that you rolled from letting the water in .

The material is 500D PVC, and is completely waterproof.   I have chosen the Yellow which thankfully is more neon than mustard in color and the print is a modern distressed impact look.

The obvious is to recommend it for fishing, beach going, skiing, but I think this size especially would be ideal for family trips to amusement parks.  At amusement parks such as Six Flags or Disney world, there are water rollercoasters, water-parks, and this bag makes it very convenient to keep your camera, purse, phone dry.

The fact that it is light-weight and can roll up into a small storage space makes it even more ideal. I think it may be able to hold water in a pinch if you were lost hiking (I did not test this idea for how much it could hold (Yes, I know 10L)/ for how long.  

I am able to easily fit my 12.1 laptop through the mouth of the opening without issue, and plenty of room to spare.  I think it would also be a good idea to keep under your seat, in the situation that it rained for easy access and protection.

I always cast a critical eye over the items I use and review -- and always point out any problems I discover -- but I didn't find anything not to like about this little 500D PVC Earth Pak 10L Drybag
